This Will Be Your New Favorite Holiday Song…

November 18, 2014

Of course Mariah Carey’s version of “All I Want for Christmas” is a staple on radios during the holiday season, and with good reason. But we think this new Christmas song by a cappella group Straight No Chaser and Kristen Bell will be right up there among your favorites this year, especially if you spend some time texting and using social media. It’s called “Text Me Merry Christmas.” Let’s just say it’s VERY relatable.

The Thoughts That Go Through Your Head as Temperatures Start to Drop

November 10, 2014

Everyone loves Fall. How can you not? It’s all about pumpkins and Halloween and cozy sweaters and such. But with these fun things
comes the winter dread. You know what I’m talking about. It’s the knowledge that winter is coming and it’s going to be COLD. Here are some perfectly reasonable thoughts that may go through your head as temperatures start to drop and winter gets closer:

  • Why can’t humans hibernate like bears? It’s just cruel to force people to venture outside every day when your nose hairs are freezing and your car is a block of ice.
  • Remote car starters are probably one of the most important and amazing inventions of all time.
  • It’s time to start gathering menus from every place that delivers within a 30-mile radius because you are NOT going outside to get lunch, and you can’t honestly be expected to pack your own when you venture through snow and ice to get to the office each day.
  • It doesn’t matter how the coat looks, as long as it’s warm and comfortable. The more like a sleeping bag it is, the better.
  • If the snow boots don’t actually prevent you from falling, they’re useless. Again, it’s not about the fashion statement when the weather situation gets drastic.
  • Note to self: investigate a way to open a branch of your company’s office in a warmer locale. Say, Florida or the Bahamas, perhaps.

Kelly Clarkson Covers Taylor Swift. Awesomeness Ensues

November 04, 2014

Kelly Clarkson is known for doing killer covers of popular songs (see exhibit a and exhibit b if you don’t believe us) and now she’s taking on Taylor Swift, who is clearly on a quest for world domination these days. At a concert in Buffalo recently, Kelly covered Taylor’s song “Shake it Off.” She started off making it a little bluesy and jazzy, and then went into full on pop mode and it was FUN. Check out the video below:

Sidenote: doesn’t Kelly Clarkson seem like a genuinely great person? She’s someone you could hang out with, tell your secrets to, and get brunch with without worrying about anything.

5 Strange (and Highly Unsexy) Halloween Costume Ideas

October 27, 2014

Getting creative for Halloween is always fun. Being a witch or a zombie or a mummy is so overdone. But check out some of these costume ideas we’ve seen. They’re just um…bizarre.

Ebola Containment Suit

It’s always fun to have your costume line up with pop culture. But this costume just screams “too soon.” Not to mention the fact that it would make enjoying a party pretty difficult/sweaty.

Sexy Jellyfish

Two words you don’t normally hear together, right? But if you want to dress up as a sexy jellyfish for Halloween, you can pay $130 (yep) and this costume is all yours.

Sexy Madeline

Forget everything you know about the beloved children’s book Madeline. This version is definitely in your face and not appropriate for children.

Sexy Big Bird

Again, weird.

Anything from The Exorcist

Ahhhh! This is one way to prevent anyone from talking to you at a party.

The Halloween Activities You Can Still Enjoy As an Adult

October 22, 2014

Halloween is undeniably a kid’s holiday– it’s a little creepy to go trick-or-treating in your twenties and thirties–but that doesn’t mean you have to let the little guys have all the fun. Here are some ways you can enjoy the holiday no matter how old you are:

  • Carve a pumpkin: Don’t feel like dealing with pumpkin guts everywhere? Got it. How about painting one instead? It looks pretty and there’s way less clean up involved.
  • Do fun fall activities: Apple picking, baking of pumpkin-flavored goodies, sipping pumpkin-flavored lattes outside as you do some leaf peeping. All fun and festive.
  • Watch classic Halloween movies: You know that Hocus Pocus is playing on at least three channels right this very moment. Go watch.
  • Have a costume party: Costumes aren’t just for kids! Invite your friends over and encourage everyone to dress up. See how creative everyone can get. That means none of this “sheet over the head and I’m a ghost” business.
  • Hit up a haunted house: Pretend you’re not scared. We won’t tell anyone it was you shrieking like a little kid when the chainsaw guy popped out from behind the wall.
