How to Kick the Common Cold or Flu

October 06, 2016

It’s that time of year again when everyone gets the nasty coughing, Sore throat, stuffed up and runny noise Common Cold. Here are some easy tricks to get relief from any Cold or Flu like symptoms.

1: Hot Ginger Tea

I found that Ginger tea works best for a cold or flu like symptoms. The ginger is warming and just a little spicy, some people find it delicious and some don’t really care for the taste, but it  can really help relieve congestion.

2:Essential Steam

One almost instant fix for a stuffy nose is to steam it out. This at house remedy feels amazing and releases pressure from your sinuses. Just filling a bowl with a hot water and adding an essential oil can really make a difference, Hot steam showers work just as well.

3: Chest Salve or Vapor Rub

You can make your own at home Vapor rub, just another way to get rid of congestion. Store bought Vapor Rub works too, but I found that this at home recipe works a little better.

You will need…

-1/2 cup of coconut oil
-15 drops of peppermint essential oil
-An airtight container

Directions

Over a double boiler, melt down the coconut oil. Remove from the heat and pour it into a heat safe airtight container. Add the essential oils, stir, and seal off while it cools. Once it has completely cooled, simply rub a little on your chest or under your nose (be careful not touch your eyes-I have rubbed peppermint essential oil in my eye before and it is not pleasant!) This will keep in a cool dark place out of direct sunlight up to 3 years.

4: Gargle With Warm Salt Water

This is perfect for a sore throat, although it is not the best tasting thing in the world it really does work wonders. It moistens your sore or scratchy throat and brings temporary relief. Try a half teaspoon of salt dissolved in 8 ounces of warm water four times a day.

Why Las Vegas is Exactly Where You Want to Be Right Now

April 06, 2016

Las Vegas has always seemed like an appealing vacation destination, with its glitzy casinos and over-the-top appeal. But lately countless stars have announced that they’re doing stints in Sin City. It’s enough to make us want to plan a trip to go catch them all in action. So let’s say you’re planning a bachelorette party and have an excuse to see a few shows as you head out to Las Vegas. We definitely suggest you make time to see a few of these performers:

Britney Spears

Brit Brit is at Planet Hollywood bringing all of her “Baby One More Time” and “Slave 4 U” glory. And if you follow her on Instagram, you know she is in Britney circa 2002 shape, so you’ll leave feeling really inspired to workout. Or possibly just envious of her abs but still with no real desire to exercise. Either way is fine, no judgement.

Jennifer Lopez

In terms of dance abilities and energy, it’s hard to top J. Lo. If you’re heading to Vegas, you have the chance to see her electric show in person. J. Lo is also at Planet Hollywood, so you’d have to strategize here in order to incorporate her show into your schedule if you’re also hoping to see Britney.

Mariah Carey

It doesn’t get much more legendary than Mariah Carey, and she’s doing a run at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace in Vegas. Watch her belt those high-notes live. How awesome would that be?

Celine Dion

The divas are in the house in Vegas as Celine Dion also headlines The Colosseum. Imagine seeing Mariah one night and Celine the next? That’s the stuff bucket lists are made of.

If your childhood revolved around boy bands, the announcement that the Backstreet Boys are headed for a Vegas residency probably made you VERY excited. Nick Carter has confirmed that they’re venturing out west to do a trial run. This would be the ultimate. Britney one night and BSB the next? It doesn’t get any better.

The One Show You MUST Watch This Month

January 04, 2016

There is certainly no shortage of amazing things to watch on Netflix. If you haven’t checked out Aziz Ansari’s new show “Master of None” then you absolutely should because it’s hilarious and insightful. But the one show that seems to be on everybody’s mind lately is called “Making a Murderer.” If you liked the podcast “Serial” then “Making a Murderer” will be right up your alley. It’s a true crime documentary following Steven Avery, who lives in small-town Wisconsin and served 18 years for a crime he was later found not to have committed. Shortly after he was finally freed from prison, Avery ends up in jail again; this time for murder.

The documentary is riveting. As Avery argues that he was framed by the very police who wrongfully convicted him the first time, you follow the court proceedings, hear about the evidence, and go back and forth about the man’s innocence. If you’re in the market for something new and highly binge-worthy, this is absolutely it.

Check out “Making a Murderer” on Netflix now!

If You Want to Look Great For Your Holiday Parties But Don’t Want to Spend a Small Fortune

December 16, 2015

Holiday parties are in full swing and New Year’s Eve is right around the corner. This is a fun, festive, and exciting time of year, of course. Unfortunately, it’s also the time of year when you’re a little afraid to check your bank account. If you want to look great for your various holiday festivities but don’t exactly have hundreds to shell out on a new dress for each event, you need to check out Rent the Runway.

If you haven’t heard of it, Rent the Runway is a site that lets you borrow designer dresses for a fraction of the price. Wear the dress for your event, then put it back into its neat little bag, attach the pre-made UPS sticker, drop it in a UPS dropbox, and you’re on your merry way. They handle dry cleaning for you.

I was amazed by the concept (and also a little skeptical) but I decided to give it a shot for my friend’s holiday party. I was sick of the same three dresses I always wear, but also was not in the market to spend $200 on something new. I rented a Nicole Miller dress that retails for nearly $400 for just $60 bucks. It fit perfectly and helped to breathe new life into my wardrobe. This is what it looked like:

As an added bonus, RTR lets you order two sizes, which is perfect if you’re not totally sure which size you’d need. There are also plenty of detailed reviews about each dress, so you can get a sense of which size would fit best based on what other users have opted for in the past. It was such an easy experience, I can’t believe I hadn’t thought to try it before. I’d definitely recommend it for holiday parties or New Year’s Eve, plus it’s something to keep in mind when wedding season rolls around again!
